Erik, I think the first place I encountered the Cloister was a Robert Hess piece on Chartreuse that doesn’t seem to be on the web anymore. I hadn’t noticed the similarity to the St. Germain, which looks like it’s definitely more about Chartreuse than the Cloister–for those who don’t want no stinkin’ gin in their Chartreuse cocktails. I still have my Chartreuse training wheels on, so it may be awhile before I attempt that one. (By the way, I really like the photo in your St. Germain writeup, the little dragon’s head rising over the Chartreuse foam, very amusing: http://savoystomp.com/2009/12/12/st-germain-cocktail/ .)

Where did you find the recipe?

It’s nearly exactly the St. Germain Cocktail from the Savoy Cocktail Book, except that drink includes egg white.
